During the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam, the audience will see the cello in all its facets in a program specially developed by the Netherlands Bach Society around Bach's concertos. And during a free lunch concert, six young, talented musicians will play Bach's third Cello Suite.
On Monday 24 October, three top cellists will be playing Bach concertos on three variants of the Baroque cello - both solo and ensemble. Huh? Hang on a sec! Cello concertos by Bach? Although he composed six suites, Bach never actually composed a concerto for solo cello. Nonetheless, there are any number of his concertos that are ideally suited for one or more cellos, with or without some degree of arrangement. After all, wouldn’t Bach have done the same if he’d known such amazing soloists would be performing at the biennale?
On Wednesday 26 Ocotber, six young, talented musicians from our talent development project will play Bach's third Cello Suite during a free lunch concert. Lucia Swarts, cellist of the Netherlands Bach Society, coached and mentored the young cellists during the recording they made for All of Bach. Each cellist recorded one movement from the third Cello Suite, which they will also perform during this lunch concert. Their recordings for All of Bach will be published simultaneously with this concert.
