Edurne Ruiz
This year, Edurne got her Bachelor’s degree in Classical Singing at Codarts, in Rotterdam - time to dive into early music, where she’s secretly always felt most at home. “The music is direct and pure, and it also has an immediate effect on me and my emotions. In a certain way, it’s very accessible music.” The social world in early music is also something that really appeals to her. She heard from a reliable source that playing with the Bach Society is enjoyable. “That’s special and I think it’s important. It also makes the music better when a group has a warm atmosphere.” She’s looking forward to being able to delve into the early music repertoire through the Fellowship, and to playing with the ensemble at top level. “I’m going to give it my all.”
Over two seasons, the Fellows will perform in several concert series by the Netherlands Bach Society. This season, Edurne will be appearing in Reflect with Bach on 7 December, Bach at his finest and the St Matthew Passion.
Project that Edurne is most looking forward to: "The St Matthew Passion of course (I’m curious as to how I’ll experience the piece in Baroque tuning). But also Reflect with Bach, as it’s a concert by the Fellows, and then we can really show what we’re made of."
Favourite composer: Ravel! His music has always been very close to me. Maybe because he’s also from the Basque Country and I hear Basque influences in his music.
Favourite piece by Bach: ‘Es ist vollbracht’ from the St John Passion.
