Johanna Soller

Johanna Soller (Burghausen, 1989) is a conductor, harpsichordist and organist, and one of the most versatile artists of her generation. Rooted in historical performance practice, her passion for words and musical speech in particular forms the basis of her musical work.

In 2019 she established the baroque ensemble capella sollertia, with whom she published a complete recording of Johann Ludwig Bach's cantatas with the label Ricercar in 2026, which won in the Alte Musik category as part of the prestigious Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics’ Award). From 2023 to 2026, she was Artistic Director of the Munich Bach Choir and Orchestra.

Johanna Soller is a regular guest conductor both with period ensembles and modern orchestras, such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the B’Rock Orchestra, the Dunedin Consort, the Bachstiftung St. Gallen, the Kammerakademie Potsdam and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. Soller is also in demand in the field of opera, where she has made a name for herself as Maestra al cembalo.

An accomplished basso continuo player, both on harpsichord and organ, she has performed with ensembles such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and Vox Luminis. Soller was a faculty member of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München from 2018 to 2026, teaching her own oratorio class as well as basso continuo playing and sight reading. She also gives masterclasses and workshops with regularity and has enjoyed working with Det Norske Solist Kor Ung in Oslo and Talent Norge for a conducting masterclass with the Swedish Radio Choir. In 2027 she will lead guest projects at the CNSMD Paris, the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Julliard School in New York.

Soller studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Michael Gläser, Christine Schornsheim, Edgar Krapp and Bernhard Haas. She has received several awards, including tthe Bavarian Art Promotion Prize and the Eugen Jochum Prize for Conductors.
