Valérie Stammet

Valérie Stammet

Meet our new Fellows! The new crop of Young Bach Fellows started at the beginning of this season. We’re delighted to introduce them to you: soprano Valérie Stammet.

This summer, Valérie Stammet, from Luxemburg, got her Master of Classical Vocal Music at Conservatorium Maastricht. The broad programme had only a small space for Baroque music. But it was enough to spark off a deep wish to delve deeper into this music – which used to be her favourite to play on her first instrument: the cello. The Fellowship will give her the opportunity to do so. Valérie says, “I’m crazy about singing Bach. When I sing Bach, I feel as though everything’s right. I don’t have a big Romantic sound that fills a whole theatre. My voice is often described as precise and pure. A good match for Baroque music, and for my character.

Over two seasons, the Fellows will perform in several concert series by the Netherlands Bach Society. This season, Valérie will be appearing in Reflect with Bach on 7 December, The Best of Bach and the St Matthew Passion.

Project that Valérie is most looking forward to: Bach at his finest

Favourite piece by Bach:
‘Zerfließe, mein Herze’ from the St John Passion.
