Klavierbüchlein
by seven young keyboardists
In 2024, for All of Bach, seven talented keyboardists aged between 10 and 18 delved into the harpsichord and Bach’s Klavierbüchlein. The talented youngsters, who came from Spain, Poland, the United States, Japan and the Netherlands, took two masterclasses from harpsichordist Siebe Henstra, in which they worked towards an All of Bach recording day.
The Bach Society organises a talent development project once every two or three years. Previous projects involved young cellists, violinists and pianists.
After an application round, we selected the following seven candidates for this edition:
• Adriel Gonzalez
• Dymitr Szostak
• Fernando Lourens
• Guillermo Gonzalez Garcia
• Kanji Daito
• Hanna Zhang
• Shuxian Ding
In the masterclasses – in June and September – Siebe Henstra gave individual lessons to the young harpsichordists. He introduced the talented youngsters to Bach, the harpsichord and Baroque playing techniques and styles. Under his guidance, they learned selected works from the Klavierbüchlein, including the Nine Little Preludes, BWV 924-932, which Bach wrote to use in lessons with his son Wilhelm Friedemann. For All of Bach, the young harpsichordists will be recording the works they have been rehearsing in October 2024, at the Maltezerhuis in Utrecht.
